Immunologists and the Public – Linking Science and Health

DoI 2009 Competition

This year’s DoI will focus on the improvement of the information flow between scientist and layperson in general. Although the public interest in health issues seems to be high, people without any scientific background often miss the relevance of immunological research and findings.

Our aim is to create a shortcut between the growing understanding of the immune system and the often ill-informed public and patient, in order to improve general health and well-being. Your initiative should help to make immunological expertise more accessible for the general public.

As you may know, 2009 has been proclaimed the Darwin Year. This might be an opportunity to enhance the publicity of your activities, e.g. Darwin and immunology, the evolution of the immune system, the co-evolution of infection and immunity. However, this will not be a criterion for the Jury.

EFIS offers attractive awards for the best initiatives for the DoI 2009. Winners and their concepts will be introduced on the occasion of the 2nd European Congress of Immunology (ECI 2009 Sep 13-16) in Berlin.
